THE CREATOR

The title ‘Elf Control’ popped into Rodney Spottiswood’s head as he was driving one day and from there the ideas flowed; Elf Control could be Santa’s north pole headquarters, how would it run, what would the elves be like and what would it look like today etc.

Rodney listened to a lot of audio comedy growing up including Chicken Man, THe Goons and the D-Generation’s morning breakfast radio show on Triple M and he was always eager to try and do something himself.

Once the storyline and script started to develop he began thinking about the cast and reached out to friends and colleague’s he’d met over the years either through work or friends. Rodney had worked in television and corporate events and met some very talented actors &  comedians who were very willing and eager to help.

His two young children provided inspiration as Rodney wanted them to observe and be involved in the creative process from seeing an idea formed into a script and recorded, edited and mixed into a final product.  They were involved in the Store VIsit episodes and can take credit for some of the jokes, for example it getting so cold on the North Pole that Rudolph’s nose turned blue.

Rodney is very grateful for the support he received from friends, work colleagues and the great cast; as well as the support received from his wife who helped create time, space and finance for this stupid show.

THE CAST

Record days were always so much fun, thanks to the talented cast who were mostly able to be assembled all together, although on occasions due to scheduling some actors had to be recorded separately and edited in.

The cast willingly gave up their time to support this silly show and were paid with much gratitude and a silly gift.

There were some additional cameos throughout (such as the kids in the Store VIsit episodes) but here is the main cast:

MAIN CAST

Geoff Paine
Elphonse, Yonder Elf, Elfabian, Demetrielf, Sticker Machine

Geoff started out on Neighbours in the 1980’s and recently arrived back there after a 34 year break (he looks much older these days).  He’s worked in TV, radio, film and live theatre, from Shakespeare to the Rocky Horror Show, and has produced, written and directed comedy shows along the way.  Elf Control is the most fun he’s had in a recording studio for 20 years.

Russell Fletcher
Santa, Elfis, Elfrik, Mr Mond

Russell is an improvisor, MC, character actor, corporate entertainer and facilitator, and works for a local council in Community Care. He is often seen during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival hosting ‘Spontaneous Broadway’ but only ever gets recognised as Father Ricky from Lano & Woodley, and as an unsuccessful applicant for police line-ups.

Michael J Welch
Grumble, Elaph

Michael has acted professionally in the United States and Australia opposite some of the best in the industry, including roles on prime-time television shows ‘NCIS LA’, ‘Criminal Minds’ and most recently as seen on Netflix ‘Clickbait.’Michael has worked in front of and behind the camera, on stage and off, and in-front and behind the microphone. He is an experienced singer, voice artist, dancer, Improviser, and stand-up comedian. . He is also a professional DP/camera operator and has worked in many areas of production.

Cassie Fersterer
Melfa, Elperta, Elfira

Cassie is a busy  mum, frontline healthcare worker and has acted in amateur productions, stage and film.  She enjoys playing pretend, especially when it’s funny – laughter is better than Prozac.

Sophie McLean
Mrs Claus, Ingelf, Elfrid

Sophie works as a set designer/props buyer  but has jumped into many different roles including voiceover and on camera presenting.  She loves creative environments and as long as it’s for fun and a bit of a laugh, is willing to have a go at almost anything. When asked to voice of some tiny Christmas Elves, she couldn’t say no. Her life long dream to present on Playschool may have passed so Elf control will have to do.

Jason Cameron
Voiceover guy/narrator

Jason has enjoyed a life-long career as a journalist producing and presenting TV News, Current Affairs, Documentaries and Series for most Australian capital city networks as well as Thames and London Weekend Television. From the outset, friends told him that he’d go a long way… and so he did…all the way to Longreach, in far flung Western Queensland where his breakfast show on local radio consistently rated No:1 amongst all demographics including sheep and yes, kangaroos. (Ed Note: There was no other local station, or TV, or daily paper in 1969).

Jason has always enjoyed a finely tuned sense of the ridiculous, evidenced by his covering of no fewer than six Royal Tours, one Royal Wedding and a Royal Funeral.

He quite rightly regards his role as The Voice-Over Guy on Elf Control as his personal crowning glory.
