THE CREATOR

Elf Control is silly, Christmassy and a bit dark, much like its creator Rodney Spottiswood who had the idea for the name of the show before anything else.  The name Elf Control spawned all manner of drivel: writing, countless hours recording, editing, mixing and searching ChatGPT for a good name for an elf who had the tips of its pointy ears cut off by a workshop band saw (Nubbin).

The real joy of making Elf Control was in the writing and coming up with stupid ideas and was a place where Rodney could involve his kids, who were an inspiration and part of the show’s creation every step of the way, including helping voice some of the kids in the Santa Store visit episodes, eg. Bethy (S01, E05).  Other inspiration came from a childhood of listening to classic audio comedy including Chicken Man, The Goons and the D-Generation.

Rodney assembled his cast from friends and work colleagues paying them with gratitude and silly Elf Control themed gifts. He couldn’t have made the show without them and is incredibly grateful for their time and talents. Record days were always a blast and many ad libs were used in the final product, well at least the family friendly ones.

CMS Australasia was also an incredible support, providing facilities for the recording.

Rodney is very grateful for the support he received from friends & work colleagues (Cameron Bailey, Luke Oliver, Dan Emond, Troy Jansen) as well as the support received from his wife Jacinta, who helped create time, space and finance for this stupid creative project.
